Neurographica and Crochet — How Creativity Heals
Neurographica and Crochet — How Creativity Heals
As a neurographica instructor and crocheter, I'm often asked how these two worlds connect. The answer is simple — both are a form of meditation through hand movement.
What is Neurographica?
Neurographica is a method of transforming thinking through drawing. Created by Russian psychologist Pavel Piskarev, it uses specific drawing algorithms to help the brain create new neural connections.
The Connection with Crochet
When we crochet, our hands perform rhythmic, repetitive movements. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system — the same one activated during meditation. Cortisol (the stress hormone) decreases, and serotonin increases.
My Practice
Every morning I start with 15 minutes of neurographica — drawing my intentions for the day. Then I crochet for at least 30 minutes. This combination gives me incredible clarity and peace.
A Tip for You
If you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed, pick up the hook and yarn. You don't need to make anything complex — even simple repetitive rows of single crochet have a meditative effect.
Creativity is medicine for the soul. 🧡
